The current controversy regarding who Patrick will be adopted to has become a viral issue being debated and argued over on just about every Facebook page created in Patrick’s honor. A war, if you will, is being fought over not only where Patrick will live, but the credibility of AHS and their staff.
I am personally one to argue and debate a valid point until I am blue in the face, however, how valid are these opinions being spewed as ammunition in this verbal warfare?
Let me point out, if we calculated the total number of hours each person has spent arguing their empty, biased opinions on the same, imagine – just imagine, how many animals could have been cross-posted and subsequently saved. Just food for thought.
Most seem to be on the side of GSVS, stating that the GSVS employee interested in adopting Patrick should be able to adopt him as they have provided his care, brought him back from near-death, etc.
I am of the opinion that Patrick, like any other dog, should be in the care of someone who can and will love him unconditionally for the rest of his days. If that happens to be said GSVS employee, than so be it!
It should be pointed out, however, that AHS, made the decision to save Patrick. They could have easily euthanized Patrick, due to his emaciated condition and the thought of the costs of take care of the same. They didn’t. I have noticed, AHS hasn’t received much credit for this. That, is sad. There would be no Patrick, no Movement, no MIRACLE, if it wasn’t for AHS initially.
This is not to discredit GSVS at all. GSVS has done a beautiful job with Patrick and we owe many thanks to them as well.
Some people have claimed that AHS is only in this for ‘the money’. From what I can tell, that accusation is false. I do not work for AHS, I do not volunteer for AHS, I don’t even live in Jersey. These basis for this accusation: AHS has Patrick’s pictures copywritten. HELLO?! WTF!
It is not a newsflash that our dear Patrick is a media sensation, and there has been overwhelming evidence that groups have been created just to market his image to make a quick buck. I am under the opinion that AHS did this in order to PROTECT Patrick from being further exploited by scammers – you know, people who are taking YOUR money and pocketing it? Give me a break!
AHS is a 501 3(c) NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, who has been running solely on donations since 1906. That’s over 100 years that they have been around, sheltering, helping, adopting out and caring for animals. That’s also over 100 years of experience when it comes to caring for and adopting out animals. All of that experience is out the window now and only when it comes to Patrick?!
To those of you who are a part of the debate:
Have you stopped to remind yourself that you don’t know PATRICK, you don’t know the employees at GSVS, you don’t know AHS and you certainly don’t know the behavior specialist who did the report concerning the possible GSVS adoption? Did everyone take a crash-course over the weekend and become an expert? If so, maybe I was too busy trying to save lives to notice. Everyone needs to get their egos in check and put their opinions away.
Fact: We don’t know all the facts or the parties to this situation.
Fact: We all aren’t experts.
Fact: Our opinions are essentially without merit. GET IT?
The only thing you radical debaters are doing is carelessly and senselessly bringing down the reputation that AHS has built in the last 100+ years. In the long run, donations may be hindered, which means the care-standard for animals in AHS’ care may go down, with means more animals will die and less will be adopted out. FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
Not only are you ranting and raving statements without validity which will ultimately have a negative effect on other animals in AHS’ care, you may also be hindering future updates regarding our beloved inspiration and miracle, Patrick.
If there are constant rages, don’t you think that IF AHS decides to place Patrick with another family, that they will then keep that information confidential so that no one will further harass his adoptive parents? If that happens, you can kiss your updates goodbye.
We must remember that Patrick is a miracle, inspiration, and the poster-puppy for abused animals everywhere. But Patrick is also still a dog. A dog who has the same wants and needs as any other dog. Let him be a dog.
There were THOUSANDS of applications submitted to adopt Patrick.
This is all very bittersweet for me. Its BEAUTIFUL that Patrick, a dog who was unloved and neglected for so long, has so many people who want to give him the love and adoration he never had.
But where are these THOUSANDS of people, ready and willing to adopt, when dogs are being euthanized for space everyday. We have THOUSANDS of people who want to make a difference, I implore each and every one of them to go ADOPT A DOG IN NEED. There are too many beautiful animals being killed everyday simply because there isn’t enough space for them.
It is ridiculously selfish to ONLY want to adopt Patrick.
EVERYONE cares about Patrick. Everyone, AHS, included, wants the best for Patrick (as seen by their constant updates on their page). So lets stop the bidding war, clear our heads, and let the experts decide what is best for Patrick, Patrick the dog… not Patrick the media sensation.
Well said!!!
ReplyDeleteAMEN!! Finally, a voice of reason. The power of negativity is too strong. Among all the banter, so many good things were posted too and received no attention whatsoever...it's wrong!
ReplyDeletelOVE YOU GIRL
ReplyDeleteI love it, this is fabulous and very well said!!! Good job!
ReplyDeleteThank you for pointing out what so many people seem no longer able to see. Patrick has become, in a way, everyone's dog, but it is still up to those who chose to rescue him and to whom he belongs to decide the best home for him. AHS has been healing and placing some of the worst cruelty cases - many, many of them have been pit bull terriers - capably for years and years, and will do so for Patrick. I agree with this blogger - SO many dogs are dying in the pound/shelter in town, the next county over, or in the city nearest you - save a life and do it in Patrick's name.
ReplyDeletePreach Sister and may they all hear.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that you should have made this argument at the beginning. It would have made more sense then. Get off FB, stop 'liking' the Patrick Miracle, stop reading this blog, blah, blah, blah. Stop with the freaking cross-posting because at some point it just becomes spam. Get out from in front of your computer and do something!
ReplyDeleteYou're a little late with this sermon. If it was okay for thousands of people to follow Patrick on Facebook, then I think it's okay for thousands of people to want to know why AHS sent a 'behaviorist' in with an agenda to disrespect GSVS so they could prove the point that they have ultimate control.
Who are you to start judging now? And why aren't you out saving dogs, rather than writing blogs about the obvious?
Ugh you seemed to have typed my thoughts!!! Almost EVERYDAY Brown Pit Bulls are put to sleep in NYC alone--let alone the country--because no one wants them. Why is Patrick getting THOUSANDS of apps.....and no one LOOKS at other dogs. Yes, he is special, but---so are many others. Who share his story. DO SOMETHING. And NO IT DOESN"T cost a buck, unless you have a buck to spare. Foster. Transport. Advocate. Educate. Sponsor. OPEN YOUR EYES AND YOUR HEARTS. Listen to Patrick, if that is who got your attention. Don't let your "passion" die with his adoption.
ReplyDeleteWell Said! Maybe you will get the point across as John and Myself and Others have been unable to.
ReplyDeleteBut I have found that lately resentment of Patrick has been growing...as other dogs with needs come up and no one responds...
Dogs that need wheels, surgeries, homes, medications...
Dogs that are going to DIE if they do not get rescued...
All the while there are parties planned for Patrick, vigils for Patrick..Prayer Groups FOr Patrick..I think I saw 6-7 today alone...
So...I will just bow out...said my piece..
My human Granny says:
ReplyDelete"Props to the 'AHS' and much props to the 'GSVS' and to the many donators for providing the funds to make this 'Miracle' of GOD'S happen. Yes it is a miracle and we all know where they come from. I agree that this is a day late and a dollar short. Did you research all the good things that have come in honor of this 'Miracle Dog Patrick'?
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=160519080676516
Lets remember that always in a miracle it is from God and He should get the credit. That being said I am so thankful that the decision where Patrick the Miracle Dog will live the rest of his life is not my decision. I can only say that he (Patrick) may have medical problems down the road and in his best interest it should be with someone who knows him and can give him the best care. Hence a employee of the place that gave him such GREAT care in his darkest days. Thanks for your post..."
And as you can see human Granny is a woman of many words...Snicker! Snicker!

ReplyDeleteYOU’VE MADE SOME EXCELLENT POINTS, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO RESPOND TO OTHER STATEMENTS WITH WHICH I, AND MANY OTHERS, DO NOT AGREE. NOT BASHING HERE – AND I ONLY WRITE IN CAPS TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN YOUR TEXT AND MINE.
ReplyDeleteI am personally one to argue and debate a valid point until I am blue in the face, however, how valid are these opinions being spewed as ammunition in this verbal warfare?
THERE ARE MANY RUMORS AND BASELESS OPINIONS OUT THERE, BUT THERE ARE ALSO CREDIBLE, SUBSTANTIATED FACTS WHICH SPEAK TO AHS’ INTEGRITY. (FACTS AND EVIDENCE SOME WISH TO IGNORE.)
Let me point out, if we calculated the total number of hours each person has spent arguing their empty, biased opinions on the same, imagine – just imagine, how many animals could have been cross-posted and subsequently saved. Just food for thought.
SO ONLY THOSE WITH OPPOSING VIEWS ARE WASTING THEIR TIME? IS THAT NOT WHAT THIS BLOG MIGHT BE DOING?
Most seem to be on the side of GSVS, stating that the GSVS employee interested in adopting Patrick should be able to adopt him as they have provided his care, brought him back from near-death, etc.
YES, IT DOES SEEM MOST ARE ON THE SIDE OF GSVS SO THERE MUST BE REASONS. MYSELF, I’M ON PATRICK’S SIDE.
I am of the opinion that Patrick, like any other dog, should be in the care of someone who can and will love him unconditionally for the rest of his days. If that happens to be said GSVS employee, than so be it!
I AGREE THAT PATRICK, LIKE ANY OTHER DOG, SHOULD BE IN THE CARE OF SOMEONE WHO CAN AND WILL LOVE HIM UNCONDITIONALLY. THAT SAID, HE ALREADY HAS SOMEONE WHO DOES AT GSVS. NO CRAP SHOOT HERE – IT IS PROVEN. WHY REMOVE HIM FROM THE ONLY LOVE AND TRUST HE HAS EXPERIENCED AND PLACE HIM IN WITH A STRANGER IN FOSTER – AND THEN ADOPT HIM OUT HOPEING IT WILL BE A SUCCESSFUL PLACEMENT?
It should be pointed out, however, that AHS, made the decision to save Patrick. They could have easily euthanized Patrick, due to his emaciated condition and the thought of the costs of take care of the same. They didn’t. I have noticed, AHS hasn’t received much credit for this. That, is sad. There would be no Patrick, no Movement, no MIRACLE, if it wasn’t for AHS initially.
YES, AHS COULD HAVE EUTHANIZED PATRICK AS THEY DO MANY OTHERS – BUT – HE’S EVIDENCE AND SOME OF AHS’ GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS REQUIRE THEY OBTAIN PERMISSION BEFORE EUTHANIZING AN ANIMAL. THIS RAISES THE QUESTION – DID THEY ASK IF THEY COULD EUTHANIZE HIM AND WERE DENIED PERMISSION. I DON’T KNOW AND AM CERTAINLY NOT SUGGESTING THEY DID. I ALSO THANK THE GENTLEMAN WHO FOUND PATRICK AND CALLED AUTHORITIES. AS FOR AHS, THEY DID THE JOB THEY ARE CONTRACTED TO DO – THEY DID WHAT THEY ARE PAID GOVERNMENT FUNDS TO DO – TAXPAYER DOLLARS UNDER A CONTRACT WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
This is not to discredit GSVS at all. GSVS has done a beautiful job with Patrick and we owe many thanks to them as well.
THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THIS FACT.
Some people have claimed that AHS is only in this for ‘the money’. From what I can tell, that accusation is false. I do not work for AHS, I do not volunteer for AHS, I don’t even live in Jersey. These basis for this accusation: AHS has Patrick’s pictures copywritten. HELLO?! WTF!
HAVING PATRICK’S PICTURES COPYRIGHTED IS NOT THE ONLY REASON FOLKS FEEL THIS WAY. WHAT ABOUT THEIR WEBSITE REQUESTING FUNDS FOR PATRICK’S CONTINUED MEDICAL TREATMENT WHEN HIS MEDICAL TREATMENT WAS MORE THAN COVERED WEEKS AGO? WHAT ABOUT THEIR DICTATE TO GSVS TO STOP POSTING VIDEOS, PICTURES AND UPDATES OF PATRICK? WHAT ABOUT ONE OF AHS’ OFFICIALS STATEMENTS AND THE TAINTED BEHAVIORAL REPORT ON PATRICK BASHING GSVS, ETC.?

ReplyDeleteI AGREE WITH THIS AND UNDERSTAND THIS. I WOULD LOVE TO ADOPT PATRICK BUT UNFORTUNATELY I AM VERY SICK AND HAVE 2 DOGS ALREADY. IN MY SITUATION IT IS HARD TO TAKE CARE OF THE 2 I HAVE.
ReplyDeleteMANY PEOPLE ON HERE I FEEL JUST WANTS HIM CAUSE HE IS POPULAR. THAT IS NOT A GOOD ENOUGH REASON.
PATRICK NEEDS TO GO TO THE DR AND HIS WIFE, THEY HAVE A BOND THAT IS SOLID.
THE HUMANE SOCIETY IS FILTHY, DIRTY AND DISGUSTING. I FEEL LIKE THEY JUST WANT HIM TO MAKE MONEY ON.
THEY HAVE TOO MANY VIOLATIONS, AND DO NOT CARE FOR ANIMALS PROPERLY.
I WRITE IN CAPS BECAUSE MY VISION IS NOT GOOD.
The "Patrick movement" is about thousands of other dogs in similar situations in shelters so they can be adopted instead of being killed.
ReplyDeleteBefore anyone throws stones at Associated Humane, let's think about the dedication that keeps those people working in the trenches every day. How many of us can even spend a day at a shelter without being overwhelmed by the heartbreak of unwanted pets?? If a sensation like Patrick can open people's hearts and wallets, let it serve to benefit all the unpublicized cases, and make people think about those animals before going to a pet store or breeder. Discrediting the people who went out on a limb for Patrick (and do it every day for so many) will only hurt the chance of animals waiting to be adopted. All of my dogs have been adopted from AHS, each one a miracle, each one cared for and loved at the shelter. I am so thankful for the people who have worked to save their lives.
